The softness of dry pastel and its countless effects – blurred, powdery, blended or flat-wash – reflect the highly exclusive world of pastel painters.
This area of expertise, reserved for initiates, was the subject of intense research by the Maison Caran d’Ache colour workshops. The decision in favour of complementary shades appeared the obvious route and involved offering an extremely wide range of colours comprising 84 hues that are presented in two forms which come in every shade: the pencil and the cube.
Keen to perfect this precious medium while following the advice of masters in the art of pastels, Caran d’Ache has endowed its Pastel Pencils + Cubes range with optimum properties. Extra-fine, highly concentrated pigments offer wonderful luminosity and excellent covering power along with exceptional lightfastness.
The large, 4.7 mm wide diameter of the pastel lead ensures colour smoothness, resistance to smudging and precise lines. The comfortable 6 x 83 mm size of the pastel cube, along with its perfect square section, guarantee ease of use on flat-wash work as well as highlighting details.

The Pastel Pencils + Cubes range is designed and manufactured in the Geneva workshops of Caran d’Ache, in line with eco-friendly standards and certifications and according to the Swiss Made quality label.
